Hello reader, how are you doing today?

It’s been quite a while here, have you ever tried to do something and you end up pushing it to another day, then another week, then another month and some times as bad as even another year? , you need to stop PROCRASTINATING!!!!!!!!

I know in your mind you’re like “as if it were that easy, rolls eyes”, lol, well. I know it’s not so easy really, but come to think of it, is there really anything you do that you wouldn’t have to put some amount of effort into? No, Literally, everything requires some effort, lots of self-discipline, lots of being intentional.

We often tend to give different reasons as to why we procrastinate; “I need to be in the mood, I don’t have what I need yet, I need a new phone, I’m tired, if I had plenty money now”, all these are really just excuses, if we honestly look around, we’ll realize that we have more than enough resources to get things we need to get done, and we also have the time, but most times, it’s mismanaged.

Procrastination can have a detrimental impact on your life. At some point you start to blame yourself for not achieving a lot, you tend to have anxiety often from trying to meet up with tasks last second, you won’t be organised, all of this can lead to stress and even certain health problems. I’ll put you through ways you can cope/deal with procrastination.

FEAR: A times you a  scared of making mistakes and other times it’s even fear of success, these can actually be responsible for procrastination. In such situations, you have to challenge your faulty beliefs. If you are afraid of success because you secretly believe that you don’t deserve it, it is important that your self-handicapping might be keeping you from achieving your goals. By addressing the fear that is keeping you from getting started, you can begin to overcome your procrastination habit.

RECOGNIZE THE ONSET OF PROCRASTINATION: Pay attention to when thoughts of procrastination start to creep into your mind. If you find yourself thinking “I don’t feel like doing this now” or I’ll have time to work on this later”, then you need to recognize that you are about to procrastinate. When you feel tempted to procrastinate, don’t give in to the urge. instead, force yourself to spend at least a few minutes working on the task. In many cases, you might find it easier to complete a task once you get started.

ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS: this is like a major point where your self-disciplinary skills have to come in. it’s hard to get any real work done when you keep turning your attention to your TV or you keep scrolling through your social media platforms. what you should do is assign a time for work and a time for other things, that way it’s easier to focus on work that needs to be done. Turn off or put away anything that can distract you when it’s time to get a task done.

CHUNK IT: When a task seems overbearing, procrastination often follows. So, how can you break that task into smaller, manageable parts? For example, if you want to write a book, you may choose to make an outline, identify each chapter, figure out the sections in the chapters, and then commit to writing one segment at a time. Chunking it down like this will help you feel less overwhelmed and more empowered.

REWARD YOURSELF: Establish a reward if and only if you do what you set out to do. Do not let yourself binge that new Netflix show, check your social media, or get lunch until you complete what you have scheduled. So, instead of using these tasks and distractions to procrastinate, make them contingent on you actually finishing what you schedule for yourself.

I came across a quote earlier this week “Procrastination is the arrogant assumption that God owes you another chance to do tomorrow what he gave you to do today”. when I saw this quote, I told myself I need to frame this and hang it in my room, you can too.

While procrastination might not be something you can avoid entirely, becoming cognizant of the reason why you procrastinate and how to overcome those tendencies can help.

I really hope these tips help you. Do have a great day and week ahead. If there is anything you would like me to give tips on or help you with don’t hesitate to comment to this post with that.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!
