As part of our numerous efforts towards raising high impact youth leaders, we took the opportunity to collaborate with the convener of Spectators to Spectacular, Gbenga Ogunbowale a 2019 Mandela Washington fellow and CEO, Epower to organize the fourth edition of Spectator to Spectacular and it was a huge success.
Ogunbowale strongly believes that anyone can achieve greatness in life with discipline, diligence and persistence. He posited that achievers don’t usually talk about their struggles and failures, though these are the very events that take them through the fire that forge them into titans. He has always used it as a medium to inspire youths to aspire great things in life, in commemoration of his birthday.
The event, themed “Untold Stories” was designed as a platform for youths to listen to the stories of determination, diligence, perseverance and unyielding spirit of goal getting against adversities by high achieving individuals in the society. Great young leaders were billed to speak at the event. They include Femi Iromini [World Bank consultant], Edem Dorothy Ossai [a policy entrepreneur, Obama scholar and Founder, Mayein Initiative], Wuraola Ayodele [Mandela Washington fellow and founder, Women safe house] Ridwan Rasheed [Founder and Executive director, ZeroToOne foundation], Ako Eyo Oku [Mandela Washington fellow] and Happy Innocent Ezem [Small and medium business consultant and founder, Under30blackCEO]. There were also wonderful musical performances and spoken words.
Edem Ossai shared her story and challenged the attendees to always strive to answer the fundamental question, “What is the role of youths in driving measurable progress in the African society”. She told them not to be preoccupied with the wrong questions. She insisted that impact must be made in the society before recognitions roll in. She also gave satisfactory answers to questions raised by the participants.
Wuraola Ayodele and Ako Eyo Oku shared their experiences in the 2019 Mandela Washington fellowship [MWF]. They guided the attendees on the application and the processes involved in the fellowship. Wuraola Ayodele also challenged the youths to address the problems in their societies before applying for international fellowships like the MWF. They both answered questions from the participants.
Our Executive Director, Ridwan Rasheed also guided the attendees through application for the Young African Leaders Initiative in a session facilitated by Happy Innocent Ezem. He stated that they must be deliberate when applying for fellowships. There were musical performances by Dark Gold and Eminence Rapmachine. Princess Inem also treated the audience to a powerful and spellbound spoken words session.
A cake was cut by the convener and the attendees in commemoration of his birthday. The event had almost 200 youths in attendance. These ones, without any iota of doubt, have been greatly inspired to cause great impact in their respective communities. It was a great delight to us all at the ZeroToOne foundation to be part of this spectacular event.
